چکیده
River vegetation radically modifies the flow field and turbulence characteristics. To analyze effects on flow, most scientific studies are based laboratory tests or numerical simulations with stems smooth beds. Nevertheless, in this manner, of bed sediments neglected. The aim paper is to experimentally investigate a vegetated channel and, consideration that, comparative experiments velocity measures, performed an Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter (ADV) profiler, were carried out flume different uniform sediment sizes same pattern randomly arranged emergent rigid vegetation. better comprehend time-averaged conditions, was explored. Subsequently, analysis focused energetic characteristics determination Turbulent Kinetic Energy (TKE) its components, as well energy spectra components immediately downstream element. results show that both roughness surface deeply affect Furthermore, it revealed influence becomes predominant grain size larger.

On Coherent Structures of Turbulent Open-channel Flow Above a Rough Bed
Present study examines turbulent structures of a rough bed open-channel flow in the context of deterministic approach. Instantaneous velocity field is measured in different hydraulic conditions using two dimensional Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) in vertical plane and Stereoscopic PIV in horizontal plane. Different techniques and quantities such as swirl strength, two-point and cross-correlat...
متن کاملTurbulent Flow through Idealized Emergent Vegetation
This paper presents results of several large-eddy simulations LES of turbulent flow in an open channel through staggered arrays of rigid, emergent cylinders, which can be regarded as idealized vegetation. In this study, two cylinder Reynolds numbers, RD =1,340 and RD=500, and three vegetation densities are considered. The LES of the lowest density and at RD=1,340 corresponds to a recently compl...
متن کاملDeposition of Various Shapes Particles on a Rough Surface in Turbulent Flow
An experiment set-up is used to study wall deposition rate of particles on a rough surface in a turbulent channel flow. Deposition velocities for three classes of particles, namely, spherical glass particles, irregular shape polymer particles, and fibrous silicon particles are studied. The particle concentration at the test section was measured with the aid of an isokinetic probe in conjunction...
متن کاملTurbulent flow in smooth and rough pipes.
Recent experiments at Princeton University have revealed aspects of smooth pipe flow behaviour that suggest a more complex scaling than previously noted. In particular, the pressure gradient results yield a new friction factor relationship for smooth pipes, and the velocity profiles indicate the presence of a power-law region near the wall and, for Reynolds numbers greater than about 400x103 (R...
متن کاملTurbulent characteristics in flow subjected to bed suction and jet injection as a pier-scour countermeasure
The effect of a combined system of the bed suction and jet injection as a pier-scour countermeasure on the turbulent flow field is studied in a laboratory flume using an Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter (ADV). The three components of the velocities in the vertical symmetry plane in the equilibrium scour hole in front and rear of the pier under 3-jet injections and bed suction rate Qs/Q0 = 2%located...
